The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina: Takes a corny American comic staple and makes it dark. Sabrina is based on a critically acclaimed comic from 2014, and has a tight world and lore. The show stars Kiernan Shipka, aka Sally Draper, as the moralistic witch battling with the familial expectation for her to sign a deal with the devil. The show is unbearably camp, full of ludicrous set pieces, beautiful people and cult Commonwealth actors. One of the best things on Netflix right now.
Netflix looks like it is on to a winner with new series Maniac. Based on the Norwegian TV show of the same name. The 10-part dark comedy centres around two strangers, portrayed by Emma Stone and Jonah Hill, who find themselves caught up in a mind-bending pharmaceutical trial for a psychotropic drug involving a visionary doctor. Believing they are living out a fantasy life. Whilst they’re actually locked up in an institution, our guess is things won’t go to plan.
Matt Groening has taken his unique strain of 2D silliness in a Dungeons-&-Dragons direction. A beer-swilling and seemingly forever-inebriated princess. Her green-skinned elf and somewhat macabre personal demon go on a series of adventures in the crumbling fantasy kingdom of Dreamland.
Queer Eye series 2
Radiating exactly the sort of warmth the world needs right now. The Fab Five – reduced entire lounges to tears as they helped eight set-in-their-ways American men overhaul their wardrobes, diets, relationships and so much more. Series two looks likely to up the tissue requirements.
Glow series 2
The Gorgeous Ladies Of Wrestling (GLOW) return for round two of Netflix’s supremely daft comedy-drama, promising more big hair, more Spandex and more body slams. Now with the addition of real-life WWE alumni Chavo Guerrero Jr, who stars as a male wrestler who fights the girls.
Making A Murderer Part 2
Returning to document part two of the story are Emmy Award-winning filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos. Who have been working on the new series since the first aired to critical acclaim in 2015. Viewers can expect ten new episodes that will focus on the post-conviction process and delves into the emotional toll the verdicts have taken on their respective families. Series one was one of the most talked about TV shows.
The Monty Python Collection
The fact that almost all of Monty Python’s back catalogue is landing on Netflix in one large comedy dump should be cause for wild celebrations up and down the land. The Holy Grail and The Life of Brian. Arguably two of the funniest films to walk the land, are in there, plus the Flying Circus TV series and a bumper load of live shows.
The Good Place
Kristen Bell plays Eleanor. A woman who dies and ends up in the afterlife, where an admin error puts her in a “good place” despite her previous bad deeds. Ted Danson also stars as her facilitator. Don’t miss this one.
